Class of 2021: I feel like I’ve been throwing around a lot of superlatives lately to describe you. The other day, my daughter was critiquing a speech I was going to make and said, “Y’know, I learned that ‘really’ is actually overused and isn’t so strong. Let’s look at the online thesaurus to figure out a good alternative.”
The fact is, though, that this graduating class is part of a larger college cohort that has weathered a wildly unusual year and a half. This part of the cohort in particular needed to weather it while getting set to graduate from college. So…REALLY…wow!
Since we need to have our HumBio graduation celebration virtually on Saturday, I thought well, hey! Why don’t I send you all some virtual bouquets as well? So I took a bunch of pictures up in Mendocino and then also on the Stanford quad to try to capture the profusion of joy accompanying graduation weekend. I hope that you feel as proud of yourselves as I do of you all.
To start you off, a group of rhododendrons – you just have to love rhodies.
And now: roses, poppies, foxglove, hydrangea, and fuschia (non-rhodies, essentially).
For the final bouquet, what you’ve all been waiting for: blossoms happening right now on the Stanford quad. Bougainvillea, jacaranda, and…? Katherine P, we need your help with this last one!
Now, this next image is not a blossom, but I couldn’t resist finishing with a picture of this beautiful place that we’ve all had the chance to share for a while.
All of my best wishes head off with each of you, Class of 2021! You are all REALLY awesome.
